Selling a large lot of cigars goes more smoothly when the buyer can review everything at once. Work through this list before you ask for an offer.
The inventory
- A spreadsheet listing brand, vitola, box size and number of boxes for each line.
- Which boxes are sealed and which are opened, with counts for opened boxes.
- Any limited editions, regional editions, humidors or rare boxes, listed separately.
Photos
- Overall shots of the stock as it’s stored.
- A sample of box fronts from each line.
- Box bottoms showing the factory and date codes.
- Close-ups of anything damaged.
Storage and condition
- Where the stock is kept, and the humidity and temperature.
- How long it has been there.
- Any history of problems: dry spells, heat, mould or beetles.
Provenance and ownership
- Where the stock was sourced, with invoices if you have them.
- Who owns it, and who has authority to sell.
- Any lender or third party with a claim on the stock.
Regulatory and logistics
- The licensing, tax and customs status of the stock where it’s held.
- Whether it can be collected from where it is, or needs to be moved.
