Good photos let a buyer identify your cigars and judge their condition without seeing them in person. A phone camera is enough. Daylight from a window is better than a flash.
The six shots that matter
- The whole collection. The humidor, shelves or stack as it stands, so the buyer sees the scale and how it’s stored.
- Each box front. Straight on, with the brand and vitola readable.
- Each box bottom. This is where the factory and date codes are stamped. Make sure they’re sharp and legible. This is the single most useful photo.
- The seals. The warranty seal and any other seals or labels on the side of the box.
- An opened box. Lid open, showing the cigars and their bands.
- Any damage. Close-ups of cracked wrappers, stains, mould or small holes.
Tips
- Photograph in the room where the cigars are kept, and put them back quickly.
- Avoid glare on cellophane by tilting the box slightly.
- Keep boxes in the same order as your list, so photos and list match.
- Don’t open sealed boxes to take photos.
